Kaguya-sama: Love is War will go on a 1-month hiatus

Famous Romantic comedy manga “Kaguya-sama: Love is War” by Aka Akasaka will go on a 1-month hiatus after next week’s chapter to prepare the future story development for the brand new arc. It will resume in the Weekly Young Jump issue on July 1, 2021.

Story and Publication

Akasaka launched the manga in Shueisha’s seinen manga magazine Miracle Jump in May 2015. In 2016 it was moved to its sister magazine Weekly Young Jump. So far, the Shueisha has released 22 compilation volumes of this series. The manga was awarded the best overall work in 2019 at the 65th Shogakukan Awards. As of April 2021, the manga had over 15 million copies in circulation.

A 12-episode anime adaptation was released in January 2019, where Mamoru Hatakeyama ( Shōwa Genroku Rakugo Shinjū, Record of Grancrest War, Sankarea ) directed this animated project within A-1 Pictures, responsible for animes such as Sword Art Online, The Seven Deadly Sins or Your Lie in April. The script was written by Yasuhiro Nakanishi ( Shiawase Restaurant, Digimon Adventure tri. Sōshitsu ) the character designs were the work of Yuuko Yahiro ( Diabolik Lovers, Toji no Miko). Kei Haneoka was the music composer. On April 13, the second season premiered in Japan, bringing together the entire technical team from the first part. An original video animation (OVA) adapting the manga’s twenty-second volume also released on May 19, 2021.

Viz Media is publishing the manga in English since 2017. They describe the manga as:

“As leaders of their prestigious academy’s student council, Kaguya and Miyuki are the elite of the elite! But it’s lonely at the top… Luckily for them, they’ve fallen in love! There’s just one problem—they both have too much pride to admit it. And so begins the daily scheming to get the object of their affection to confess their romantic feelings first… Love is a war you win by losing.”
