About The Show

Written by Aneko Yusagi, The Rising of the Shield Hero is a dark fantasy Isekai light novel series that tells the story of Naofumi Iwatani, a sophomore Otaku who spends most of the time playing video games and reading manga, suddenly finds himself summoned to another world as one of four legendary heroes and tasked with saving the world from an inter-dimensional swarm of mysterious monsters that came into the world by a sacramental, reoccurring phenomenon called waves. However, in an ironic twist of fate that robbed his honor and pride as a hero, he suddenly became the lone penniless, hated, rapist from being the honorable legendary hero after being falsely accused of an attempted non-consensual sex act with a princess. With no one to turn to and nowhere to run, he is left with only his shield, a slave raccoon girl Raphtalia, and the bird-like monster Filo.

As of April 2019, the light novels and manga have sold a combined 6.2 million copies in Japan.
