Aya Kanno’s Requiem of the Rose King is finally getting adaptated!

Wow Wow !!!!!!! Finally !!!!! That screamed with surprise and joy even in the middle of the night.

Aya Kanno’s dark fantasy historical manga Requiem of the Rose King’s(Bara-Ō no Sōretsu) television anime will premiere in fall 2021, the official Twitter account of the manga announced on Tuesday. However, further details are not yet known.

Published in English by VIZ Media’s Signature imprint, Requiem of the Rose King adapted Shakespeare’s Henry VI, Part 3 and Richard III, in a gothic-tinged drama that gives a new gender-bent twist to the intricate story and the interpersonal relationships between Richard and the world around him with a phenomenal plot and marvelous art that it will stand out even to the non-manga readers out there.

Viz Media describes the story as-

Richard, the ambitious third son of the House of York, believes he is cursed, damned from birth to eternal darkness. But is it truly fate that sets him on the path to personal destruction? Or his own tormented longings? Based on an early draft of Shakespeare’s Richard III, Aya Kanno’s dark fantasy finds the man who could be king standing between worlds, between classes, between good and evil.

The manga has been serialized in Akita Shoten’s Monthly Princess magazine since October 2013 and collected into 15 bound volumes as of March 2021.

Moto Hagio who is considered as “founding mother” of modern shōjo manga and “the most beloved shōjo manga artist of all time” praised the design and story the manga
calling it a “more interesting than Shakespeare!”
