Blue Lock Manga Goes on Hiatus

According to a statement in Twitter account for Kodansha’s Weekly Shōnen Magazine popular award-winning soccer manga Blue Lock by Muneyuki Kaneshiro and Yusuke Nomura is going on hiatus for a while due to illustrator Nomura’s poor health condition. The magazine stated the manga will resume in the magazine’s 48th issue on October 27.

Manga and Publication

Blue Lock began to be published from the 35th issue in 2018 in the “Weekly Shonen Magazine (Kodansha)” and has been collected into fifteen tankōbon volumes since then with the latest volume being released on August 17, 2021. As for the printed copies sales, the cumulative circulation of the manga has already exceeded 5 million. Furthermore, the manga was awarded the Best Shōnen Manga titles in Kodansha’s 45th annual Manga Awards earlier this year.

The Manga also made a collaboration with Japan’s professional soccer team FC Tokyo recently. For this collaboration project, it will be a special collaboration goods designed by Yusuke Nomura’s illustration of FC Tokyo and the “Blue Lock” character wearing a blue-red uniform.

Anime & Production

In addition to the manga’s hype and more Blue Lock is inspiring a television anime which is scheduled to be broadcast in 2022.
