“In a world where humans with different abilities exist, the main character Tokio Kurohara and his best friend Higashi Azuma became Choujins. An extraordinary battle action by two people with a sense of justice is about to start.”

The long-awaited second chapter by Sui Ishida is finally out and it has already become a hot topic in social media!

So let’s go! Let’s talk about outlines, themes, impressions, and more about the series today. Choujin X by Sui Ishida – Chapter 2 Review.

At the beginning of the second chapter, it turned out that Ely Otsuta, the girl who had a plane crash in chapter 1, received the superhuman ability of Chandra Hume on the plane, became the same “smoke superman” as Chandra Hume.

Chandra Hume started to chase Ely and after a fierce chase, Star Sandek, who claims to be a superhuman who protects Yamato suddenly came out of nowhere and helped Ely.

Chapter 2 Spoilers & Discussion

Choujin X chapter 2 has aroused a whole bunch of questions regarding the situation, settings, characters, and more. From the very first page, the moment I saw the tomato girl on the cover, I knew some twists coming. Because I thought she was dead in the first chapter. Ishida sensei just used the plane crash as an intro to the worldview of choujin that’s what I believed, but I was betrayed brilliantly.

Ely’s athletic ability, chased by Chandra Hume, was not human-like from the beginning. Even the fact that there were 200 survivors in the first chapter hit me with an unrealistic miscellaneous feeling of the background.

But now it all makes sense. It was all thanks to Ely and her choujin power that saved this many people at the time of the plane crash.

Is the ability of “Choujin ” contagious?

It can possibly be!

Chandra Hume himself was wondering if his power has been transmitted, so that may be the case. It is different from the fact that Tokio and Azuma gained the ability of choujin by the effect of injection in the first chapter. So this is a possibility we may find out in later chapters as we progress!

Star Sandek is the hero of the day!

“I’m Star Sandek … Yamato Prefecture’s Choujin protector”

-that’s what a hero would say !!

Star Sandek took an entry to the scene like a true hero. The hero with a heart of justice. He just came in the middle of Ely’s strike, took a turn around, and bang!! He blew Chandra Hume away from such a distance. Judging from the expressions of Chandra Hume, he seemed to know Star Sandek, and I think it is possible that they have been engaged in such battles for some time, and they know each other quite well.

It is also worth mentioning how strange and unique of a design Ishida made for Star Sandek. It reminded me of Yasuhisa Hara‘s design of General Ouki from Kingdom. They don’t bear any similarity in terms of looks but the energy behind it is almost the same. I loved that.

What is the ability of the Star Sandek though?

At the time of the battle with Chandra, it looked like that the cars and rubble around him were dancing and blowing in the circular space around Ely. So, it may be possible he can manipulate the gravitational and repulsive force around him.

Actually, I don’t know if people have noticed or not, there was the word “斥” is written on the back of the Sandek that was designed and changed by reforming the word “引斥” which means repulsion.

Furthermore, while we are talking about his ability if we look at Star Sandek it almost gave the vibe that he is a human being with some kind of “ability”, so it may be that a person can still be a choujin even if he doesn’t change into something monster-like being, only stays in human form. There is a chance.

What happened to Tokio and Azuma?

At the end of the first chapter, Tokio awakened to a vulture-like choujin and blew Johnny away with a single blow, but Azuma was still asleep. Even after being injected he was still lying down at Tokio’s feet.

So what happened afterward?! Well, it’s still a mystery. Little do we got to see Tokio and Azuma in this chapter.

At the end of the second chapter, Tokio was taking a shower at home and had a hard time adjusting his transformation ability.

” I guess the cold water made it worse..?”

-he said.

It is quite possible ‘cold water’ works as some kind of stimulation for choujins or something.

Now on to Azuma. There’s nothing been explained about Azuma in this chapter. If you read my chapter 1 review, you know I assumed that Azuma either won’t turn into a Choujin due to his genetics or maybe he’s dead. So that’s still remaining as a
mystery for now, but one thing is for sure Azuma is still not dead yet. Considering that Tokio has returned home and he’s not thinking or depressed about Azuma, it is highly possible that Azuma has returned home safely too and he is alive. So there’s that.

Conclusion

I really enjoyed this chapter. It brought a whole new possibility and perspective to the story’s theme. We got to meet a lot of new characters, learned a lot of new things from the hints and stuff and finally, we found a room to grow where the story can take different approaches and branch out to different sides with unique themes and more.

So it was great. It was also overwhelmingly crazily directed by Sui Ishida. I was absorbed in the action & conversation drama. The visuals were great. I’m excited about future developments.
