A season without MAPPA is almost unheard of nowadays. Attack on Titan: The Final Season in winter, Zombie Land Saga Revenge in spring, and finally here we are with Heion Sedai no Idaten-tachi this summer.

Personally, I’m not a big fan of anime adaptations of video games (I don’t mean VNs (Visual Novels) ). Every time we get a video game adaptation in anime it turns out to be bad one way or another, but hopefully this time the PV looks amazing and we got rock band THE ORAL CIGARETTES doing the opening theme song “Red Criminal”. Let’s see how it goes.

Oh, one more thing, the Scarlet Nexus game has not been launched yet, it will launch on June 25 on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC via Steam. So if you are a gamer. Check it out.

6. Genjitsushugi Yuusha no Ookoku Saikenki

  • English: How a Realist Hero Rebuilt the Kingdom
  • Release Date: July 4, 2021
  • Studio: J.C.Staff
  • Genre: Action, Military, Harem, Magic, Romance, Fantasy

Written by Dojyomaru and illustrated by Fuyuyuki, How a Realist Hero Rebuilt the Kingdom may seem like another same old story with the usual isekai concept on the surface that you may want to drop, but I’ll say give it a chance. Combining both a practitioner and learner-centered approach towards leadership, our main character with the story mainly focuses on concepts like strategy, competitors, military, and their reference from the view of perspective of a practitioner to rebuild the struggling kingdom with the administrative reform!

And obviously, it is from Shōsetsuka ni Narō, so you get some romance and sprinkling of harem comedy to it.

Story: “O, Hero!” With that cliched line, Kazuya Souma found himself summoned to another world and his adventure–did not begin. After he presents his plan to strengthen the country economically and militarily, the king cedes the throne to him and Souma finds himself saddled with ruling the nation! What’s more, he’s betrothed to the king’s daughter now…?! In order to get the country back on its feet, Souma calls the wise, the talented, and the gifted to his side. Five people gather before the newly crowned Souma. Just what are the many talents and abilities they possess…?! What path will his outlook as a realist take Souma and the people of his country down? A revolutionary transferred-to-another-world administrative fantasy series starts here!

3. Vanitasu no Karute

  • English: The Case Study of Vanitas
  • Release Date: July 3, 2021
  • Studio: Bones
  • Genre: Dark fantasy,Steampunk,Supernatural

At number 3 we have the supernatural dark fantasy Vanitas by studio Bones, written and illustrated by Jun Mochizuki, the creator of Pandora Hearts.

The reason it is this high on the list solely because of the production committee. I’m really curious because it’s not just about studio Bones, we have Deko Akao (Noragami, Frame Arms Girl, After the Rain, Higehiro) overseeing the scripts, Yuki Kajiura (Puella Magi Madoka Magica, Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba, Fate/Zero, Mobile Suit Gundam SEED) is composing the series’ music and finally Tomoyuki Itamura on the director seat. This will be his first time as a director on Bones but previously he worked as a director and storyboard artist alongside Akiyuki Shinbo for 10 years in Shaft. He also even worked with Masaaki Yuasa and Shinichirō Watanabe in Super Shiro and Carole & Tuesday. So let’s see how it goes.

Story: Rumors revolving around The Book of Vanitas, a clockwork grimoire of dubious reputation, draw Noé, a young vampire in search of a friend’s salvation, to Paris. What awaits him in the City of Flowers, however, is not long hours treading the pavement or rifling through dusty bookshops in search of the tome. Instead, his quarry comes to him…in the arms of a man claiming to be a vampire doctor! Thrust into a conflict that threatens the peace between humans and vampires, will Noé cast in his lot with the curious and slightly unbalanced Vanitas and his quest to save vampirekind ? Maybe we don’t need any introduction. Seasonal watchers already know about the news, but for the sake of the list, I’ll repeat it again. Tensura 2 is here.
